- Project Description:
From October 2009 to present, our Sci-TV "Becoming Citizen Scientists" Project at the Belmont Media Center has grown from Mrs. Nic (me) as volunteer coordinator to 3 NLD scientists, plus laboratory advisors at MIT/Harvard/BWH in bio-robotics and bio-medicine. In addition, our SciTV Team includes over 27 student actors, producers, researchers, and media artists in Belmont, Brookline, Lexington, and Milton. In addition, parents participate in workshops and give technical help. (not enough editing!)
Alas, all of us are working as students or paid professionals, with this volunteer work on the side.
I handle all the logistics and publicity with support from Belmont Media Center.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Our Preview Party on NLD Day, May 12, 2010 was hosted by our local station, Belmont Media Center. The first show was not completely ready for airing on Channel 9 by the end of Phase One of this NLD Project this past August.
Phase Two of Sci-TV "Becoming Citizen Scientists" will expire in June 2011.
HELP support us now!
Our team of elementary and middle school students seeks to guide all ages away from misconceptions or nonchalance about science and technology to intelligent participation as citizens of their community and country.
Please HELP us to depict in our TV programs and through organizations what scientists think is crucial for good citizens to understand.
By the way, PBSKids.org Design Squad and http://www.kidsciencechallenge.com/
are informing and facilitating our work. Mrs. Nic's current opportunity as a naturalist is to collaborate on programs with Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary of Mass. Audubon Society. This will included enrichment for older students after school and on weekends. The opportunities for filming and programing are broadening and deepening for the study of biomimetics for all ages.

Yes, ideas for GRANT PROPOSALS or donations would be great, since, alas, we do not qualify for donorschoose.org. Mrs. Nic received absolutely no grants or funds for her management and course work time for Sci-TV "Becoming Citizen Scientists!" However, Christina Nicolson has applied for a grant from Belmont Cultural Council on 10/13/10
Advice can be brief. Thanks.
