- Project Description:
For the first time, Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science, with support from Girls, Inc. sponsored its first female girls robotic team. The girls competed in the Lego First competition. Although we did not win the competition, we had fun building and "semi" programming the robot to complete some of the tasks of the obstacle course.
We are in need of a scientist (preferably female) who can teach basic programming skills, using the icons that Lego provides, to the end that we are knowledgeable about how to program our robot to complete tasks as given for upcoming competitions.
There are 8 girls on the team. Seven are currently in grade 6 and one is in grade 7. The goal is to begin preparing for next year's competition by developing the skills needed to use the technology resources provided by Lego to design and program our robot so that is does what we want it to do.
The time the girls meet is daily from 3:30 to 4:30. (However, we can adjust the time to accommodate our scientist by meeting at 3:00. Otherwise we are bounded by this time. If we could get assistance at least one day per week, this would be acceptable. At the end of each session, the girls would be assigned a specific task to be due by the next meeting. In this way there will be an upward spiral learning cycle. learning cycle.
As a start, if we could have assistance with this project from April 29th to June 4th.
There is the possibility that this could continue during the summer.
