We are launching a new class next year. The curriculum will consist of 3-4 large engineering projects. We are hoping to get a group of students with a variety of different backgrounds. We are hoping to have some strong math students, some strong science students and some strong drafting students. We were thinking of doing the bridge building project, a Rube Goldberg machine, a robotics project, and we'd love to work with a company to solve a real world problem. It could be a competition and if we can't build the prototypes at school, it would be great to take a field trip to a company as they produce the winning prototype to the real world problem. At the school we don't have a traditional wood/metal shop, so we struggle building prototypes of our designs. It would be helpful to partner up with a company that could help give suggestions of how to improve our "project lab" so it is more efficient.

The course is still in the planning stages, so I don't have a detailed description of these projects yet and we are not completely set in stone with the few I mentioned above. So any ideas would be appreciated.
