Project Description:

We need enthusiastic scientists to volunteer during the school day to present hands-on science experiences for elementary students, approximately once per month in Oakland, Berkeley, and other East Bay classrooms.

Our program is called Bay Area Scientists in Schools (BASIS). We provide ready-to-go, proven lessons, or work with scientist volunteers to develop their own standards based, exciting lesson based on their own scientific interests. We place trained scientist volunteers in elementary classrooms to present their one-hour lesson, as their schedule allows. Most volunteers present about one lesson per month during the school year (during the school day).

Attend our orientation/training session and learn how to share your love of science! Sessions generally held on the UC Berkeley Campus. Upcoming dates:
- Sep. 6 (11 am – 12:30 pm)
- Sep. 19 (11:30 am - 1 pm)
- Oct. 2 (11 am - 12:30 pm)
