- Project Description:
We are all experts! In our careers, in the computer lab, on the basketball court, in the garden, or in the kitchen – YOU are an expert at something. Citizen Schools gives you the opportunity to teach what you know - in your professional career or personal pursuits - to help middle school students learn real world skills and get excited about learning. Remember that teacher who sparked a passion in you? Here’s your chance to do the same.
What we are looking for:
No teaching experience is necessary.
The volunteer experience lasts about 10-11 weeks.
Volunteers commit to about 3 hours a week, which includes lesson preparation and a weekly 90-minute apprenticeship session (Fall semester: Monday or Wednesday from 4:15 pm-5:45pm)
You will receive training, on-site orientation, and a staff partner who will support you in and out of the classroom.
Can’t commit to 10 weeks? If you’re interested in supporting our project but can’t make the longer commitment, please contact us for information on giving a guest presentation, helping our students tour your facility, or attending/serving as a judge at one of our end of semester WOW! showcases, which take place in May and December. This will give you a firsthand understanding of the amazing work that volunteer Citizen Teachers do in sharing their expertise and career paths with students and in bringing science to life.
